IWARI 2005 Workshop Vision, Mission and Objectives
In the
spring of 2004, a group of fifty leading scholars and industrial
practitioners of radical innovation from around the world [1] established
the vision for a dramatically improved, global, accelerated radical
innovation methodology that could significantly improve the arduous,
meandering, often decades-long process of radical innovation, thereby
achieving a factor of 2X -10X improvement in innovation effectiveness --- as
measured by reduced risk, reduced time and reduced cost. To realize this
Vision, they proposed a Mission to develop sound
theory and validate practical open-innovation approaches that would
integrate technical and business innovation professionals and knowledge
workers in a collaborative environment enhanced by computer science and
telecommunication tools. The workshop Objectives are to identify and document robust theories and
verifiable approaches for the new paradigm of Accelerated Radical Innovation, and to explore the potential for applying this knowledge to
accelerate development of industrial technology and economic clusters for
global competitiveness in major regional, national and global industry
sectors. After assessing the unique dynamics of Accelerated Radical Innovation (ARI) differentiating it from classical incremental,
radical or next-generation innovation, participants will assess
collaborative scenarios for further developing and validating information
enhanced accelerated radical innovation opportunities of the new paradigm.

IWARI 2005 Workshop Information For Participants
The Sponsors invite all who can benefit from an accelerated radical
innovation community of research and practice:
business and marketing executives, engineers, scientists, academicians
(science and engineering, business, economics, technology management),
government leaders (research managers, policy managers, agency executives,
regulators, think tank experts), and financial leaders (venture capitalists,
investment bankers, investment analysts). The IWARI 2005 website at
http://www-iwari2005.eng.utoledo.edu provides information on the
workshop program, registration, travel, lodging, and a modest workshop fee
covering most meals and local transportation. The organizers invite
participants to submit Comments at
http://www-iwari2005.eng.utoledo.edu/pages/Comments.htm to guide
brainstorming session discussions addressing the synergy of the “Grand Challenges for Accelerated Radical Innovation” (diagram below) in
achieving a 2X-10X improvement in technology and economic cluster
development. Participants may also submit Abstracts at
http://www-iwari2005.eng.utoledo.edu/pages/Abstracts.htm either for
Poster Session Papers or for Peer Reviewed Papers for the publication in a
special issue of the Peer Reviewed Journal, The Industrial Geographer.
IWARI2005 Workshop Structure
The
University of Toledo will host the workshop at the Nitschke Auditorium and
Nitschke Hall facilities of the College of Engineering. Per the
program schedule posted at
http://www-iwari2005.eng.utoledo.edu/pages/Program.htm, the workshop
will begin with registration and poster session setup on Thursday morning,
March 10 and end after lunch on Saturday March 12. Poster papers and
overview presentation posters will be on continuous display during the
Workshop. To stimulate discussion, Keynote Presentations and Overview
Presentations will address global innovation challenges in key industry
technology sectors, including Information, Materials, Manufacturing,
Transportation, Agriculture and Energy. The Workshop Brainstorming Sessions
address the synergistic impact on Accelerated Radical Innovation
by three inter-related Grand Challenge Categories illustrated
below. |
|
Desired Outcome
Workshop brainstorming sessions will develop an advanced
framework of knowledge, principles, information tools and methodologies
that can be applied by practitioners and theoreticians to achieve a 2X-10X
improvement in accelerated radical innovation,
via information enhanced technology and economic cluster development.
To develop this
framework, the organizers encourage senior industrial, academic and
government professionals to submit comments as guidance for the
brainstorming sessions, and to participate in these sessions. The Workshop
outcomes will be published on a CD for participants after review by
the Workshop Advisory Committee.
